This blog post aims to answer the question, “How can an INTJ be happy?” and explores the various aspects of the life of this Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality type called INTJ to find 7 ways that could help an INTJ be happy.

An INTJ can be happy with the help of the following 7 ways –

  • Self-care.
  • Time alone.
  • Personal liberty.
  • Career fulfilment.
  • Stimulating friendships.
  • Honesty.
  • Challenges.

Who is an INTJ?

The INTJ personality type was developed by Katharine Briggs and Isabel Myers, the authors of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®). INTP is an acronym that stands for Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Judging, four essential personality qualities based on the work of psychologist C.G. Jung.

Each of the four letters of the INTJ code represents a significant personality feature of the INTJ personality type. INTJs are stimulated by alone time (Introverted), like to focus on ideas and concepts rather than facts and specifics (iNtuitive), make judgments based on logic and reason (Thinking), and prefer to be planned and structured rather than spontaneous and flexible (Judging).

Because of their methodical, logical manner of thinking, INTJs are frequently referred to as Mastermind types. The INTJ is also known by the following nicknames:

  • The Conceptual Planner (MBTI)
  • The Architect (16Personalities)

INTJs are analytical problem-solvers who use their creative ideas to better systems and procedures. They have an uncanny ability to recognise areas for growth, whether at work, at home, or in themselves.

INTJs, who are often smart, love logical reasoning and complicated problem-solving. They approach life by examining the theory behind what they perceive, and their attention is usually drawn inward, to their own careful examination of the world around them.

INTJs are drawn to logical processes and are less at ease with the unpredictability of other people and their emotions. They are often autonomous and picky in their relationships, preferring to engage with intellectually challenging people.

What are these 7 ways an INTJ can be happy?

Happiness isn’t something that INTJs are renowned for seeking, and they may consider it unachievable. They are pragmatic individuals that prefer facts and reasoning to emotions and inner sensations. 

This isn’t to say that INTJs don’t want to be happy; it’s simply that they see happiness in different ways than other people.  Happiness may mean a lot of things to INTJs, but it’s usually something very personal and tied to more tangible achievements and stability in their life. 

It is critical for individuals to comprehend what they require rather than pursuing what others anticipate of them. They have their own particular wants and desires, as well as things that give them a feeling of satisfaction and success.

INTJs need the following 7 things in order to be happy.


Understanding self-care might be difficult for INTJs, but it is critical that they work on it in order to be happy. The better INTJs feel about themselves, the more they realise their own physical and emotional requirements. 

They may find it difficult to set aside time to focus on their physical health at first because they become so engrossed in their ideas. Because of their strong intuition and inner world, INTJs find it difficult to get out of their heads at times, which might cause them to neglect their physical requirements. 

While this may be something they struggle with, it is critical that they work on it. It is critical that people set aside time and schedule methods to care for their health, and over time, this becomes a habit. 

Eating well and finding time to exercise are two things that might make INTJs feel better about themselves and their way of life. Self-care may not be at the top of their priority list, but the more time INTJs devote to it, the healthier and happier they will feel.

Time alone.

The INTJ personality needs a lot of alone time since they are introverts, but they must be careful not to isolate themselves. While seclusion may appear pleasant in principle, people require social interaction to be fully happy or pleased. 

INTJs prefer being self-sufficient and can go long periods of time without communicating with others. They may still set limits and spend time alone while being connected to their loved ones. 

For INTJs, the quality of their connections is more important than the number. They need to locate someone they can trust and feel connected to, so they don’t feel bad about taking time off.

When they have loved ones who respect and understand them, INTJs perform at their best. They still need to feel close to them and spend time with them, learning how to listen to them and express their gratitude. 

These connections will not make INTJs miserable or depleted, as some may believe; instead, they will provide them with a sense of purpose and external goals. They just need to be selective in who they associate with at this level and identify people that do not exhaust them as others do.

Personal liberty.

For INTJs, having some level of personal freedom and independence is essential. This is something that should be applied to all facets of their lives, not just their employment. 

They need to be able to make their own decisions in life without feeling suffocated or suffocated by others. Regarding independence and the ability to do anything they want, INTJs must establish clear boundaries.

They still have respect for others and their needs; they simply need to feel like they aren’t always being pressured to conform to others’ expectations. They require some level of freedom and autonomy in their everyday life, particularly in their profession. 

They also enjoy some kind of independence in their relationships and find it difficult to be around individuals who try to control them and their decisions.

Career fulfilment.

Career fulfilment and achievement are critical components of achieving happiness for INTJs. They need to feel as though they have done something significant and worthwhile, particularly in their professional or artistic lives. 

INTJs desire to feel at ease in their jobs while still being challenged.  They want to know that they are financially stable since this provides them with a sense of security and happiness. 

For INTJs, it’s about knowing that they’ve worked hard to attain their goals and don’t have to continually compete with others. They do appreciate being continually pushed, thus they thrive in jobs that allow them to grow and progress at the same time. 

INTJs have a keen sense of when they will be fully fulfilled in a work and can intuitively tell when something isn’t quite right or when it will be a perfect match. They are determined individuals who are not scared to pursue their goals, therefore choosing the correct employment is critical for them.

Stimulating friendships.

INTJs are highly picky about who they hang around with. They need to be surrounded by individuals who are equally as sincere and kind as they are. 

The INTJ personality type prefers to learn and develop personally rather than spread rumours about others, therefore dull companions won’t be chosen instead of those that are intelligent and can hold enlightening talks.


Someone who is false is the sort of person that INTJs detest the most. They are able to see through these kinds of people and choose direct communication over pointless small talk. 

They prioritise the truth above all else because they are rational thinkers rather than emotional feelers, hence the acronym T (thinking) rather than F (feeling). 

As a result, they tend to come across as cold or harsh to others who don’t know them well because sugarcoating is not their strongest trait. INTJs must have openness and honesty in their relationships.


Because of their endless curiosity, INTJs are always seeking new methods to develop both their own abilities and the systems that already exist. They require constant intellectual stimulation because they are recognised to be among the most logical and strategic thinkers. 

Otherwise, the INTJ personality type will become bored, and a bored INTJ is an irritated INTJ. They enjoy a challenge and thrive on finding solutions.
